The 2016 William Hill Cox Plate has been recognised as the equal-highest rated turf horse race at the prestigious Longines World’s Best Horse Race Awards in London.
With a race rating of 124.75, the W.S. Cox Plate finished equal with QIPCO Irish Champion Stakes as the second highest rated horse race in the world, just 0.5 points behind the 2016 Breeders’ Cup Classic – which is run on dirt.
The accolade is justified after a huge 2016 race with a star-studded field that featured the legendary Winx and included Hartnell, Yankee Rose and Vadamos.
The rating also means the 2016 William Hill Cox Plate is the highest rated race run in Australia since the inception of the Top 100 Longines races.
The W.S. Cox Plate is known as ‘The Race Where Legends Are Made’ and it’s only fitting that the horse that dominated the highest rated turf horse race was rated the best horse on turf.
Winx claimed a career high rating of 132, making it the best horse on turf and the third best horse in the world behind American duo and Breeders’ Cup 1-2 Arrogate (134) and California Chrome (133).
Winx’s 132 is two points higher than Black Caviar’s 130 when it topped the international ratings in 2013.
